Reviews

"This review is from: Best of Both Worlds (Audio CD) Best of Both Worlds by Davina is one of the most slept on albums of the past five years. Davina's raspy yet smooth vocals flow over jazzy-funky-cool tracks that are sure to set any mood. This is an album that will have your head bobbin' from start to finish. Standout tracks include Come Over to My Place, So Good, Give Me Love and her remake of I Can't Help It that puts a funky spin on the old Michael Jackson classic. This album came out in 1998, and we haven't heard from Davina since, but regardless she has a fan for life in me. If you know like I know, you'll wake up and add this album to your collection. "

"By R. Breaux "Rock" - See all my reviews (REAL NAME) This review is from: Best of Both Worlds (Audio CD) This is definitely a cd that you would love to have in your collection. I had to replace it because it was destroyed in New Orleans. I looked for it in all the music stores. I had to have it again. Wonderful music. By the way, where is Davina? She needs to drop another one. "

"All Music Guide Review Despite a couple of unrealized songs, Davina's Best of Both Worlds is an impressive debut that seamlessly blends classic soul songwriting with elements of hardcore hip-hop and smooth urban soul. At its best, it's a vital, organic blend that simultaneously works a gritty groove and offers sweet melodies. Like other soul revivalists in the late '90s, Davina is sharp enough to preserve the songcraft of classic soul while moving it into the modern world with just enough hip-hop smarts and urban gloss. When she gets it right, it makes the handful of awkward moments completely forgivable, since the music at its best is very, very good. ~ Leo Stanley, All Music Guide "

Bio

With her smoky, but smooth, vocals, Davina (born: Davina Bussey) has advanced quickly to the upper echelon of Detroit's pop music. Her 1997 debut album, Best Of Both Worlds, included the hit song, "So Good", which was featured in Laurence Fishburne and Tim Roth's film, Hoodlum.
The sister of a piano player, Davina studied the rudiments of music theory, songwriting, publishing, producing, engineering and managing a record label. In a 2001 interview, she explained her goals as "singing about life…and how everything comes from life; love, sexual energy, spiritual energy."
